It isn’t hard to grow your social media engagement and followers. Before I left Twitter, I had gathered 15K followers.
My method has three components:
Post interesting original content;
Interact in a positive way with other users;
Be patient.
Commentary:
Give people a reason to read your feed and then follow you. If you say you are creative, show that creativity. What do you actually bring to the party? Would you follow yourself?
There are some “don’t’s:” Don’t whine about anything. Don’t beg for follows or money. Don’t ignore new follows. When people comment on your stuff, reply even if it’s just a “thank you.” Don’t expect to get a million follows overnight unless you’re Lady Gaga. Don’t get into fights and pissing matches online.
Don’t obsess on numbers. Instead, focus on building a community. If you want to obsess on something, obsess on producing interesting content for your social presence.
This is what works for me. Your mileage may vary.
